We love our Socksmax Blog and we’ve decided to mix it up a little and write about other interesting and fun things – not just socks! If there’s anything you would like to hear about let us know because we also love researching. In researching a topic for today’s blog, I stumbled upon a number of stories related to sports and retail and thought I would share them with you. Let me know what you think!
The first article that piqued my interest is that New Balance is featured in a number one bestselling (New York Times) book by Mike Lupica. It’s called “The Underdogs”. New Balance steps in to help a young football player and his team by sponsoring their season and providing uniforms, shoes and equipment. It’s very exciting for the growing and popular company and is sure to increase sales. These days, with all the incidents of bullying in our schools and our cities, it’s great to see that a feel good story about sportsmanship, drive and heart is so incredibly popular. Way to go Mike and New Balance! Let’s see more of these stories.

Another mega company, Nike (Nike Sustainable Business and Innovation Lab) is planning to invest in startup companies that promote healthy lifestyles and promote more sustainable business practices (reported by Bloomberg). This arm of Nike emerged in 2009 in order to revamp of Nike’s social responsibility efforts. They created SB&I in 2009 as part of an overhaul of its corporate social responsibility efforts. Though it hasn’t acquired any startups yet, it’s a number one priority and they’re on a fast track to get it done. Nike is looking for more sustainable products, innovative green manufacturing and sustainable marketplaces. It’s going to be an interest project to keep an eye on. Nike has always had a commitment to doing things a “better” way. They pride themselves on being open to cutting edge, environmentally friendly ideas.
LaCrosse Footwear, Inc. just announced that the U.S. Marine Corps has ordered $15.4 million dollars worth of Danner’s USMC Rugged All-Terrain (RAT) hot weather boot. This boot has been used in the rugged terrain of Afghanistan since 2007. The Marines have nothing but compliments for the durability and comfort of the boots. The president and CEO of LaCrosse Footwear, Joseph Schneider, says “We’re very proud to be working with the United States Marine Corps and do our part to support the men and women who serve our country”.
The USMC RAT boot has moisture wicking lining with vent holes for excellent breathability. Durable polyurethane combined with leather protects the heel and toe against abrasion and damage from the punishing terrain.
We’ve always tried to recognize the excellent quality of our own inventory here at Socksmax and all of these articles go hand in hand with our philosophy. The commitment of these companies to be environmentally friendly and make fantastic products is phenomenal. In today’s economy, it’s not always easy to maintain that level of excellence due to cost constraints. However, these companies are proof that they will continue on their path to honor their commitments to the consumer and the environment.
